What to Expect From Your First Psychiatric Evaluation

A clear path from your first call to your treatment plan at ADHD, Mood & Behavior Center

Starting psychiatric care raises a lot of questions, so here’s how it works at the Center, from first contact to next steps, for patients ages 5 through 65.

From First Call to Next Steps

1

Contact the Center

Call 973-605-5000, email the front desk, or submit the request form. You don’t need a referral or an existing diagnosis to get scheduled with one of our providers.

2

Talk with the front desk

They’ll ask what’s bringing you in and help choose the right starting service and provider.

3

Complete your new-patient information

You’ll complete new-patient paperwork, a heart-health history, and a symptom survey before your visit. Earlier evaluations, testing, school or hospital records, and a list of current and past medications are welcome but not required.

4

Meet with Dr. Hubsher

Evaluations typically last about 60 minutes for patients seen individually and 90 minutes for patients under 18 or those with a family member taking part. Family participation is often recommended for patients under 25. New Jersey patients are seen in person at the Cedar Knolls office, and eligible Florida patients are seen virtually.

5

Get feedback and recommendations

Before the visit ends, Dr. Hubsher discusses his clinical impressions and recommended next steps, including a diagnosis when the evaluation supports one.

6

Plan what comes next

Depending on what the evaluation shows, next steps may include medication management, therapy, further testing, referrals, or follow-up visits, in person or virtual when appropriate.

Existing patients can call the office at 973-605-5000 or email the front desk at FrontDesk@ADHDMoodandBehaviorCenter.com for questions about their care.
