Adolescents with ADD/ADHD face increasing stress as they navigate a more demanding school and after-school schedule, complex social relationships, and constantly evolving family dynamics. The challenges that were manageable in lower school years become more burdensome in middle school and can become overwhelming in high school. The workload increases, and the tasks become more complex. The ability to focus, organize, prioritize, and manage time becomes crucial. Social issues require good judgment and thoughtfulness, while the desire to fit in can challenge even the best intentions. Adolescents with ADD/ADHD often struggle with social norms and etiquette, which can lead to subtle, yet sometimes devastating, social isolation. The inattentiveness, forgetfulness, distractibility, and disorganization associated with ADD/ADHD create difficulties, tension, discord, and conflict not only for the adolescent but also for friends and family. Mood swings can be erratic, ranging from hostility or withdrawal to being aloof. Behavior may be perceived as annoying, immature, lazy, and in some cases, may escalate to inappropriate or even illegal actions. Additionally, the prevalence of alcohol and substance abuse is significantly higher among untreated adolescents with ADD/ADHD.
At our center, we understand the unique challenges faced by adolescents with ADD/ADHD. We provide comprehensive support, tailored strategies, and effective treatments to help teenagers manage their symptoms, improve their overall well-being, and thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
Telehealth may be an option for teens with ADHD when a parent or legal guardian completes the required waiver. Virtual care can make it easier for teens to attend sessions consistently while balancing school, activities, and family schedules.
Telehealth services for teens may include therapy, skills development, parent-supported care, and psychiatric services when appropriate. Many teens feel more comfortable engaging in treatment from a familiar environment, which can support openness and progress.
Our clinicians work closely with families to determine whether telehealth or in-person care is the right choice and to ensure parents remain informed and involved throughout treatment.
